T he House of Representatives has successfully advanced the critical foreign aid package, a significant step in addressing the conflict in Ukraine.
This package includes $61bn designated for the conflict, encompassing $23bn for replenishing US weapons, $26bn for Israel (including $9.1bn for humanitarian needs), and $8.12bn for the Indo-Pacific region. This progress was made possible by a bipartisan coalition that overcame procedural obstacles, ensuring its progression to final votes this weekend.
The progress of the aid package was significantly influenced by the support Johnson received from Donald Trump during an event at the former president’s residence in Florida. Trump’s indirect support for aid to Ukraine, expressed through a social media post last Thursday after a meeting with President Andrzej Duda of Poland who has expressed concerns about Russia’s influence in Eastern Europe, also played a crucial role.
