MIGRANTS CAPSIZE OFF DJIBOUTI

At least 38 migrants, including women and children, tragically lost their lives when their overcrowded boat capsized off the coast of Djibouti. The incident occurred around 4 AM near the town of Obock, where local fishermen rescued 22 individuals. The survivors are currently receiving care and assistance from the UN Migration Agency (IOM), while six others remain missing and are presumed deceased. The migrants were en route from Yemen to Djibouti, a journey undertaken by many from the Horn of Africa seeking work in Gulf countries, often facing perilous conditions and exploitation by smugglers.

NUCLEAR SAFETY IN UKRAINE

A recent drone attack on Europe’s largest nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia has raised significant concerns about safety and security. The UN atomic watchdog, the IAEA, reported a drone detonation at the facility’s training centre, prompting fears of escalating risks. Despite the incident occurring outside the site perimeter and not posing an immediate threat to nuclear safety, the repeated attacks on the plant have heightened apprehensions. The IAEA Director General emphasized the irresponsible and dangerous nature of targeting a nuclear facility, calling for an immediate halt to such actions to prevent catastrophic consequences.
