R ecent polling data suggests a seismic shift in the UK’s political arena. The Tories, long a dominant force in British politics, might witness a startling decline in their presence in the next election. Here’s a breakdown of what this could mean for our nation and the key players on the political stage.
The big numbers
According to a new poll by Find Out Now UK and Electoral Calculus, the Conservative Party is projected to secure a mere 90 seats in the forthcoming election. In the 2019 General Election, Boris Johnson and his Conservative Party won a landslide victory with 365 seats, securing an 80-seat majority.
Contrarily, the Labour Party could be witnessing a meteoric rise with an expected 461 seats. In the 1997 General Election, PM John Major and his Conservative Party were defeated in a landslide by Tony Blair and the Labour Party. Labour won 418 seats, securing a 179-seat majority.
Meanwhile, the SNP and LibDems are in a close contest for third, with predictions of 38 and 37 seats, respectively.
