The UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples commended the Vatican for its rejection of the Doctrine of Discovery, which remains a source of pain for many Indigenous Peoples.


UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, José Francisco Calí Tzay, praised the Holy See for rejecting the Doctrine of Discovery. He said the doctrine is still an open wound for many Indigenous Peoples and must be addressed as part of a reconciliation process.
